Super Mario Bros. is the first of four Classic Game Styles in Super Mario Maker 2.

Origins[edit]

The original Super Mario Bros. was released in 1985 for the Nintendo Entertainment System.

Style Properties[edit]

The controls are very basic. The player can run, jump, swim and crouch, but not slide, wall-jump, ground-pound or carry objects.

Game Style-Specific Powerup[edit]

The (Icon) Game Style-Specific Powerup in the Super Mario Bros. Game Style is the (Icon) Big Mushroom.

When a player collects it, they will become their Big Form and will be able to kill most enemies with a single jump and destroy ? Blocks, Brick Blocks, Hard Blocks, Cloud Blocks, and Ice Blocks. This will also reskin players to look more modern.

Artstyle[edit]

In-game sprites and the HUD (besides (Icon) Clear Condition indicators), but not sound effect visuals, use an 8-bit artstyle, being made of pixels and only having 3 colors per sprite. There are a few exceptions to the "3-color rule", like (Icon) Bowser, whose sprite originally only appeared on a black background so it could include black as an extra color (this also extends to (Icon) Bowser Jr. despite him not originally being in the game), and (Icon) Wings, which almost always appear the same no matter what they are attached to.

Some black sprites are recolored in Course Themes with mostly black backgrounds to be a dark blue instead.
